Port Oostende Fights to Preserve Critical RoRo Shipping Route.
Port Oostende (Belgium) is locked in a legal battle against the proposed wind turbine park off Dunkirk, France, due to its overlap with the Dyckroute, a vital shipping corridor used in the past by ferries. This route, essential for connecting Oostende with southern England is now at risk.France’s consortium, led by Électricité de France, insists on the current location, potentially blocking the western access to Oostende’s port. This would jeopardise recent investments in RoRo facilities, critical to maintaining UK trade routes. The Port of Oostende has taken legal action, seeking an injunction to halt construction and a compensation claim for damages, underscoring the Dyckroute’s importance to Belgium’s third-largest seaport and the region’s economy.
